TOM WAITS - Glitter & Doom Live
holtert It rumbles and anything gasps and scolds and yes, Tom Waits is there. Always in the weeks before Christmas I return to Tom Waits. His new live CD is currently in heavy rotation for me. "Glitter & Doom" will start as strong as long no album more. Three Blue Stampfer, then a ballad, followed by the sinister "Dirt in the ground". In the middle of it ends up in the circus and gives us his phone number. Impressive as the band Waits complex rhythms and unconventional sounds that are so ideal for a studio, live to the stage. He sat down opposite his albums then go one better when he rumbles with his voice, shouts, growls, whispers, grumbles, the most beautiful ballads lard throw it in the gutter and the rockers gives something of a defiant, old steam locomotive. He will maintain his mannerisms, his fictional character, know what people see and hear from Him. "A Harlequin for the feature pages" one critic has called him again. And one of the leads you into a world - a world in conjuring the juggler, drunken sailors, minstrels and one-eyed prostitute meet with death in a bar, jazz and whiskey. A world in which all freaks and outsiders their place and dignity, and learn even in moments of comfort and romance. This world is not. Good thing he created it.
