At the movies - I & ORSON WELLES It should from the very romantic teen comedy not to be deterred Cover trimmed. As a marketing strategist provides probably the "High School Musical" fans as the target group because Zac Efron plays along. But be that of "I & Orson Welles" somewhat disappointed be.
Richard Linklater has done a nimble and infinitely charming film in which it comes in mainly two things - the theater and Orson Welles. He uses a lot of time showing us the ensemble and the samples to Welles's production of Shakespeare's "Caesar". He catches it the charm and fascination of the theater a wonderful and manages to simultaneously bring us also joy and sorrow of a community of fate close to that is to work together to create something that must and must not - not for money, sometimes at ridiculous hours and the egos of all and especially exposed to the Orson Welles.
Claire Danes is a sovereign as an assistant director and very handsome sunshine with ambitions which go far beyond Welles and "Caesar". Zac Efron as Richard makes his job perfectly well. Since I know nothing else from him except his reputation, I can say is - he is better than its reputation. To criticize, there are at least nothing. James Tupper as Joseph Cotton, each of the "Citizen Kane" and "The Third Man" knows his joy have. And the scenery, the New York of 1937, is casually mentioned, unobtrusive and flawless. Two figures stand
for me but the one is out and of course Orson Welles, played by Christian McKay. He inhaled and Welles makes his genius, arrogance and charm palpable. As someone in the making-of documentary says - it is good again Welles to see on the screen. Anyone with Welles' work and life a bit familiar, will be pleased with several notes and quotes. Such a classic scene from "The Third Man" is quoted. We see Welles, as he must advertise in order to pay his production and how can he, a year before his famous "War of the Worlds" adaptation, talks about the simplicity and power of radio. And once he even reads from "The Magnificent Ambersons" before.
The second figure is Greta, the young author of the Richard accidentally cross paths. Zoe Kazan, she plays very natural, friendly, the right to be insecure, but still with its own head. It would not be a Linklater film would not have a lot of himself in it - and this is Greta responsible. The idealistic self-made artist and writer who wishes to maintain the artistic ideal, simply because she loves it. It may be summarized in one place Linklater's "Before Sunrise" in a sentence and in another place to get riled about it, why must all the stories always have a plot.
While we see namely Welles, as he has to worry about his art, to the very real financial and Claire Danes at some point says there but much more as a theater and acting, shall in Richard talk to Greta about what they may - Books, theater, music, drama.
interesting is the last setting. A story of 1937, which deals with Welles 'Caesar' staging ignored, not what has happened in the world at that time. After all, Welles showed - based on the success of this play - Caesar as a Mussolini-style dictator and read all the actors appear in SS-style uniforms. But in the end the young figures look hopefully to the future (which is again in "Before Sunrise") would be.
fact remains - where Linklater is written there is always something good and interesting in it.
